Planning Update

When we were beginning to film we noticed that we had made the planning too ambitious so made a newer plan on something that we could do to show a range of camera angles, movements and shots.

2.       Close up of Sophie turning on the radio
3.       Mid shot of Sophie putting her hair up

6.       Tight frame of getting butter out of fridge
7.       Object of interest is toaster
8.       Tracking of walking to bread bin (feet)
9.       Tilt to show Sophie going into breadbin
10.   High angle shot of Sophie getting bread out of bin
11.   Track of Sophie walking to toaster

Continuity Editing

Continuity Editing is where a bunch of shots are all taken in real time and create a narrative that the audience is able to follow and understand. There needs to be a beginning, middle and end. Lots of separate clips that are taken at a range of angles, movements and shots are all cut together so that they all play one after another without anything in the middle of these clips such as a fade or a dissolve. This type of Editing is used in most films and trailers as it helps the audience connect with the characters.

How To Set Up a Tripod

To Set up the tripod, there are three legs on the tripod (tri stands for three), on the three legs are clips that help tighten the legs to stay strong when they are both put away and when they are extended to make the tripod bigger and taller. To make the tripod stand up, the clips are undone and the legs are extended to make sure that the height of the tripod is adjusted to where the user wants it. The neck of the tripod can then be adjusted by turning the handles by it (this handle is opposite the pan handle which is the long stick that is prominent on the cameras side). To then take the tripod down just unclip the clips and turn the handle the opposite way so that the neck comes down. The Pan Handle is used to move the camera from left to right, up and then back down again. This can create a range of different shots by being able to tighten and loosening the handle by turning it and then locking it where the user wants it. On top of the tripod there is a camera hold/plate which the camera is then attached too so that the camera doesn't fall off when the camera is being used and also stays in position when moving it around.

Preliminary Activity

I began to plan some ideas that I had for a brief trailer idea which I thought I could use to show my continuity editing along with the task of making a trailer. Here I made the plot and decided on some characters that would be appropriate for my trailer and started to plan the clip itself with shots, movements and angles.

Plot

Choosing between the one you love and your best friend is what Dakota needs to choose between when deciding whether she wants her boyfriend, who cheated on her with her best friend Faida or whether she wants her best friend who was unloyal and flirted with her best friend’s boyfriend. Between fights and arguments will the deep love of both Dakota and Blaire come out on top? Does Blaire really love either of them or is he interested in breaking their hearts?

Characters
  • Sophie - Dakota means forever smiling
  • Erin - Faida meaning wings that are folded
  • Will - Blaire dark and mysterious
Plan for Clip
Voice Over carries on throughout clip, explaining the events and feelings of Dakota. Snap shot into Dakota and Blaires future.
  1. Title at Beginning
  2. Start with a Crane Shot/Tracking (as the love is fading away, getting more distant) of Dakota lying on the grass who then asks Blaire a question ''Will you love me forever?'' - flashback
  3. Split screen on one side is shown smiling while touching necklace and on other side is Dakota/Faida touching the same necklace
  4. Tracking of Dakota walking down corridor
  5. Close Up Dakotas feet walking down corridor to show her power as she drops the friendship band that she has with Faida (object of interest - necklace on floor but you can still see Dakota walking in background blurry, pull focus
  6. Long Shot Dakota and Blaire stood in corridor together
  7. Over the shoulder shot of Dakota looking at Blaire in the corridor
  8. Mid Shot Dakota flickers out of image and Blaire is stood against corridor wall angry
  9. ''LIES'' (plain black screen)
  10. Object of Interest Dakota and Blaire together holding hands
  11. Close Up Faida and Blaire together holding hands
  12. ''BETRAYAL'' (plain black screen)
  13. Multiple shots of the characters fighting from different angles so the camera looks like its spinning, this causes the audience to feel like they are apart of the fight
  14. Low angle shot Dakota and Blaire fighting
  15. High angle shot Dakota and Faida fighting
  16. Camera spins around the characters so that the audience is able to feel the feelings of Dakota who is fighting with the other characters so that the audience sees the back of Dakota with the face of Faida and Blaire, this shot would be continuing through all the characters
  17. ''LOST'' (plain black screen)
  18. Mid shot of front view of Dakota walking away - Long Shot Dakota walking away from behind
  19. Dakota fades completely from shot
  20. Pan Dakota stood in mirror with black tears down her face - Close up of Dakotas face from the front as the camera becomes the mirror that she is looking into
  21. Low angle shot Blaire saying "Forever isn't long enough" - flashback
  22. Reviews from magazine and film companies
  23. Main Actors/Actresses names, separate clips of actors/actresses face and then when clip is paused the name appears
  24. "TO LOVE" (plain black screen)
  25. "IS TO RISK" (plain black screen)
  26. Long shot of all of the characters walking away together with Blaires arms round both of the female characters
  27. In cinemas soon
  28. Company info
Voice Over Script:
Sophie (Dakota) will be speaking on the voice over,
In first clip no voice over is used as the characters speaking is what they are saying in the moment.
''How naive I was then, she had me right where she wanted me''
Nothing written on the frame with ''LIES''
''I guess I didn't want to believe it''
''But why would someone love me over her'' - over shots of characters holding hands
Nothing written on the frame with ''BETRAYAL''
''somethings are worth fighting for, somethings aren't''
''what if everything you had just desert you for someone you thought cared for you''
Nothing written on the frame with ''LOST''
''it can be hard to walk away when you choose between everything you had and everything you wanted''
''at least ill never make the same mistake again''
Last clip of answer to question ''forever isn't long enough''
Nothing is said through the end credits.
