Using Planning

When Me and Sophie started doing our editing for our trailer we began to look at our shot list and storyboard so that we knew which order the clips we filmed were going in when we edited them this meant that we were able to follow the planning we had done earlier on to be able to stick to a production that we would like to watch and that would tell the narrative of our trailer 'Plan C'.

Risk Assessment

When our group 'Balance Productions' is doing our filming it is very important that everyone who is taking part is aware of the risks that might occur and could be out of our control. Me and Sophie wrote a list of hazards that might occur along with then how they can be prevented and a list of mobile numbers for emergency contacts.

Theorists and Research&Planning The Pitch

This is what me and Sophie did when it came to us making our pitch, we evaluated the pitch and linked it to theorists and the research and planning that we had done in the past and what we could do in the future.

Voice Over Script

Scripting the voice over

Interrogator; - Over shot 2 and 3
This is case C and inspector Corbett H. Thigpen.
So, let’s get this over with then shall we. Let’s start from the beginning,
What exactly did she say to you?

Rose; - Over shot 5
It’s not as simple as what she said… it’s who said it.

Interrogator; - Over shot 5
I don’t understand… We know exactly who said it, R-

Rose; - Over shot 6
No, I never spoke to Roxanne, well, never intentionally.

Interrogator; - Over shot 7
Explain?

Rose; - Over shot 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12
Roxanne wasn’t just Roxanne, from what I saw she had three personas, Roxanne, Vivienne and my Ava. All three were entirely different in tastes and from what I know there were three partners, one being me. I only spoke to Roxanne once and it was completely unintentional I thought I was speaking to Ava, I spoke to her about her controlling her personalities but the problem was Roxanne wasn’t aware of the other two people inside her, and once she found out, well…

Interrogator; - Over shots 13 and 14
Well what?

Rose; - Over shot 15
There was no stopping her, she would go any length to be just one person, what we take for granted, and so she dealt with this the only way she knew how… getting rid of what in her eyes, well I suppose, was in the way? (Laughs)

Interrogator; - Over shots 16, 17 and 18
Rose, you have been charged with holding evidence from the police on unlawful activity, do you deny this?

Rose; - Over shot 19
I don’t deny it.

Shot 20 is silence.

Reshooting

Reshooting Once all of the recording had been done on the 17th January Erin and Sophie decided that we might need another weekend for recording so that once we have started editing the clips that we already have together that we might need other things to make the narrative more obvious to the audience such as general conversation screens between the characters along with then the actual murders happening. Due to some of the clips that we recording being very short and slightly rushed as we were not able to book our actors for a very long time the day that we were recording due to other personal issues that we already knew could happen the shots that we already took might be better off being redone to make out trailer up to the highest standard possible for the audience and for us to edit together. Some of the shots that we had taken were very similar which might bore the audience and it would help to have a range of shots just so that we had more to play with when it came to doing the final trailer and the editing. With my film being a film with no budget because none of the characters are being paid and everything is being done by Erin and Sophie my actors will need to have another weekend where they need to get into character and this shall not be a problem if the actors are booked in advance so on the 31st January there will be another filming weekend. Captain America was a film that needed to have reshoots, here is an example of some of the existing scenes that needed to be reshot.

The Final Pitch

We are creating a film in the genre of Psychological thriller, we chose this genre because we felt as if we could take this film to whatever extent we wanted to and we could make it almost completely our own as we wanted to make a film that was ‘stretching the boundaries’. The psychological thriller genre has many different conventions, which we have researched, things like a common twist, darkness, mirrors, blood and mental disorders. From research these conventions were the most general from films we had seen for example Sinister, insidious, Black swan and Saw. Taking these conventions into account when developing our trailer made easy from analysing and evaluating other films of the same genre and inserting these conventions was vital so as our target audience of young adults would be able to recognise these semantic elements and relate them to a film in the psychological thriller genre.

Our production is cleverly called ‘Plan C’ due to the narrative revolving around a main character- Roxanne, and her three personalities. This is where we incorporated the common convention of mental disorders as we gave our protagonist Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD). Roxanne is given two other personalities alongside her own, called Ava and Vivienne, these three personas battle against each other for control, each having their own partners and entirely different lives – Ava is a lesbian, although this is not made a big deal of in our trailer and it is seen as a normal relationship, her girlfriend is called Rose and she becomes a major role in our trailer, Vivienne is a darker personality and her partner is called Evan, who is only a minor role. This all relates to why the film is called ‘Plan C’ because we are trying to symbolise how Roxanne’s third personality (Ava) is has appeared the most recently but is now the most mentally stable character, in other words she would be the first choice if you could choose one personality to keep.

When we decided that our leading role was going to have a mental disorder to abide by conventions, we immediately tried to think up the disorder that was the least commonly used in films and also that we could make our story really interesting with, from research MPD was what we discovered as the most unique and we knew we could do a lot with this as really we could have done as many personalities as we wanted, although we decided on a reasonably small number of three. MPD was then the highlight of our researching and we found different psychological studies such as the study of Eve White, who throughout her lifetime claimed to have 50 different personalities. We also did research of MPD in other films such as Lord of The Rings, in which Gollum was the focus of the research and we watched several videos on his character and ended up posting one on our blogs.

Roxanne goes through the stresses of daily life alongside these changes in personality, which are out of her control, she reveals personal secrets as Ava to Rose, and once Rose understands she begins to get concerned. Rose accidentally discusses the personalities with Roxanne instead of Ava and after gaining evidence of the different personalities Roxanne is driven mad and begins plotting ways to get rid of the other personalities and anyone who stood in her way, she decides that the best way is to kill off the other personalities partners but this only succeeds with Evan, and Ava knowing the plans kills Tate and is left as the controlling personality to live happily ever after with Rose.

Research for the Interrogarion scene

At the start of our trailer we decided that we wanted the voice over for the whole trailer to be an interrogation scene where the policemen is talking to one of the main characters Rose about what has happened with the murders and what information all of the different characters no about the events that occurred. Here is a scene from The Dark Knight, which I watched as part of my research on Action films and how they link in with the genre of psychological thrillers. This interrogation scene has helped us write our script and helped us come up with an usual idea for our trailer.
