Summer Task

Analysing real life media products, posters, trailers, dvd covers and magazine covers. This helped me learn things about other products and how I was able to present my own products when they are being made, how I am able to achieve the most publicity for my products and be able to target the correct audience. I looked at how all of these products are similar and what certain things such as images are used to attract a audience and produce something to a high standard.

Posters

Trailers

Trailers are able to give the audience an average 1-3 minutes of film footage to try and incise the audience into being interested to view that product. A trailer can be the ‘make or break’ to being able to break even on budget or whether the film doesn’t manage to succeed and make a profit. The Kick Ass trailer takes some of the best parts in the film and turns them into a montage of different smaller clips that lead up to the audience being able to understand more about what the film is based on. During the trailer for Kick Ass it is all real footage that has been cut together from scenes out of the film. The trailer for Kick Ass is 1:41 and begins straight away with a long shot of a character looking over a city with a voice over narrating the things that are happening - the same scene that is used in the posters to advertise the film - the start of the trailer is the start of the actual film so the audience is able to straight away relate with the characters and have an idea of the things that are about to happen. Later on in the clip the audience is able to meet the main character up close as he is having a conversation with his best friends afterwards there is one of the main fight scenes in the film introducing the audience into both sides of the characters life.
The sound that is used in the Kick Ass trailer is a mixture between voice overs and the actual dialogue that is used in the film when the characters are communicating. The film itself will be using continuity editing to show a story line in the film and show the audience how things develop but in a trailer they take parts of the film that catches the audience’s attention because its so randomly put together with no narrative being shown.

All of these products link together as they are an advertising method that the film company uses to be able to show an audience a product that they might be interested in viewing. They all link together due to the main character and location being shown the foreground and background of the images, this is what all of the products have in common. Due to all of the products the products are able to show an audience the product and try developing an interest for the film.
